GCap Media shakes up Xfm network

LONDON - GCap Media is set to overhaul its Xfm youth radio brand as bosses carry out a restructure of the network.

Staff will be given full details of the wide-ranging changes tomorrow.

They are expected to include DJ changes at the network's stations in London, Manchester and Scotland. There may also be variations to the stations' music formats.

Xfm's flagship London station was dealt a blow recently when high-profile breakfast DJ Lauren Laverne resigned to concentrate on her television work, hot on the heels of disgraced Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon, who left his drivetime slot in March.

The line-up changes will come as GCap prepares to expand the network west to South Wales, where it was awarded the last FM analogue licence by Ofcom last Tuesday.

Eight radio groups battled it out for the popular licence, which could reach a potential 950,000 adult listeners, including Emap with indie rock station Kerrang! and the Guardian Media Group.

Xfm recruited a series of high profile Welsh musicians to support the application, including Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers, who chaired its advisory board for the bid, former Catatonia lead singer Cerys Matthews, and Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics.
