Working in partnership with Kerridge Automotive Systems, data specialist GB Group will offer dealers access to up-to-date telephone numbers of customers and prospects.
They will also be informed if customers join the-10m plus people that have signed up to telephone preference services to avoid receiving unsolicited marketing calls.
The move is designed to help dealers take a more responsible approach to telemarketing and ensure they only spend time and resource on contacting the right people.
Kerridge has designed a software programme that extracts customer records from databases held within its Autoline management systems, which are installed in more than 2,800 dealerships across the UK.
The records are sent by ISDN to Chester-based GB Group, which checks the accuracy of the telephone numbers. It does this by running them against its National Register database, which is one of the UK's most comprehensive sources of individual household and business information, containing contact numbers for more than 16m people.
GB Group corrects inaccurate telephone numbers and supplies new ones for customers who have changed their contact details but not yet informed their dealerships, for instance after moving house.
It also highlights when customers have signed up to the Direct Marketing Association's Telephone Preference Service.
Anna Sutherland, UK marketing manager for Kerridge Automotive Systems, said: "Our 10-year partnership with GB Group has had a deep impact on the marketing and operational success of our customers on multiple levels. This latest initiative will help dealers to fully optimise their telemarketing campaigns, creating more sales opportunities and improving return on investment."
Ian Davidson, managing director of GB Group's DataIntegrity division, added: "Dealers are being hit hard across all elements of their businesses. Our new system will help dealers to ensure they focus on talking to customers and prospects that want to hear about the latest vehicles, finance packages and promotions and not waste valuable resource on contacting those that do not want to receive unsolicited calls."
