Gaymer's Cider relaunch sparks backlash by West Country loyalists

LONDON - Following Gaymer's Blackthorn relaunch last month, which was supported by a £1.5m marketing campaign, a Facebook group dedicated to eradicating the new cider has been set up and several 'Black Is Back' outdoor posters have been vandalised in Bristol.

The Gaymer Cider Company had conducted months of research among both Blackthorn loyalists and potential new consumers. The cider is ‘mellower and more refreshing', according to the company. Its ABV has been reduced from 5.0% to 4.7% in line with consumer and industry trends.

As well as the Facebook group, a pub landlord has attacked Gaymer's research, saying that it must have been conducted outside the West Country cider heartland, such as in London, where drinkers want a sweeter taste.
