The issue goes on sale this Thursday (24 February). It introduces an ongoing revamp that includes a special focus on topical tasks for the garden each month.

It also contains a 26-page supplement about the top 20 plants in the UK that exclusively features Nissan advertising.

The issue's advertisers include garden and eco visitor attraction The Eden Project, and power tool brand Stihl, which designed a special 20th birthday ad for the magazine.

According to the BBC, ad revenue for the issue is up 14% year on year.

The magazine will, according to the publisher, have a "generous print run of 357,000 copies". Last March's run was 320,100.

Celebrity gardener Alan Titchmarsh will guest-edit the title, which will also contain a contribution from Prince Charles.

The magazine draws heavily from editorial content featured in the Friday night BBC Two 'Gardeners' World' programme, presented by Monty Don, who will provide a behind-the-scenes preview of the new TV garden, where much of the filming is shot.

The special edition also features two-for-one entry vouchers for notable gardens in the UK, including Wentworth Castle Gardens, and a cut-out-and-keep year planner for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs.

The birthday issue is backed by a push for more subscribers. BBC Magazines is offering the first 12 issues for £20 through direct debit.

The issue will be supported by retail marketing activity across Sainsbury's and Tesco stores via their Nectar and Clubcard schemes.

Sainsbury's and Tesco shoppers will be offered money off the title when they purchase gardening products, competitor gardening magazines, or if they have previously bought the title.

Dominic Murray, publishing director, said: "The changes were made following extensive research with our readers and bring a clearer, renewed focus on practicality and navigation, making sure we really deliver for our core gardening audience."

The BBC is gearing up for the final stages in its search for a partner for its 36 magazines. for the portfolio.
