The company is looking to fill 10,000 positions to safeguard Games, having just opened its recruitment centre in east London.

A spokesperson from G4S told Event: "We are really encouraged to see so many people are interested in working for us. Many are keen to be involved in the Olympics, and we’re confident we will get a high calibre of new recruits at all levels."

Olympic organisers Locog decide the extent of recruitment for security jobs.

Several Olympic venues, including Excel – which is hosting the most sporting events outside of the Olympic park – are still in talks with Locog to agree on the appropriate level of security during the Games.
