Fujitsu Siemens has called a review of its £8 million UK
media account as it moves to simplify its planning and buying
arrangements.
The merged company's UK media is currently handled by BJK&E, which won
Fujitsu's account from Carat Business in 1997. However, several portions
of Fujitsu Siemens' UK media schedule are bought by overseas
agencies.
The review has been opened up to include agencies not present on either
Fujitsu's or Siemens' existing rosters.
The non-incumbent agencies were informed last week that they should
prepare to pitch for the UK business.
The merger of Fujitsu's and Siemens' PC operations in June 1999 formed
the biggest non-American computer company in the world and gave the
operation a number-two position in the European market.
The deal created a $6.2 billion operation that many observers
predicted could overtake Compaq to become the world's third-largest
player in the computer sector.
BJK&E was handed the combined Fujitsu Siemens UK account following the
merger. Optimedia, which handled Siemens mobile phones, does not work on
the business.
As a prelude to increasing its spend in the territory, Fujitsu Siemens
appointed BLM Media to handle UK buying on a project basis in 2000.
Fellow Eurolab's agency, Media Plus, was handed the European
business.
However, BLM has not worked on the Fujitsu Siemens UK account in the
past year.
Fujitsu Siemens and its incumbent agencies all declined to comment on
the review.
