The launch of Howtospendit.com will coincide with the magazine's 15th Anniversary on Saturday (3 October).

At launch, the online version of the magazine will be free, but Ben Hughes, global commercial director and deputy chief executive of the FT, said it could switch to paid-for in the future.

In addition to replicating the content in the printed magazine, the new online edition will offer video content, plus made-for-web content.

Launch sponsors include luxury brands such as Rolex, Krug and Harry Winston. Advertising will not appear on the homepage, but a large ad will appear once a user logs into the site.

Hughes said: "Print luxury advertising is moving online and the luxury ad market seems to be holding up through the recession.

"We're concentrating on large formats and a few roadblocks for good branding experience."
