According to reports, Larry Ingrassia, who edits the Money & Investing section of WSJ, is to move to a temporary assignment at the paper looking at a possible Saturday WSJ. He will be working for the most senior editorial staff member, managing editor Paul Steiger.
The newspaper is already the second-largest daily in the US, with a circulation of 1.8m, after USA Today, which has a circulation of 2.6m. The WSJ dominates the US business publishing sector, but UK-based Pearson has encroached on its market by investing heavily in a US edition of its flagship business newspaper The Financial Times, which already publishes a weekend edition on Saturdays.
Dow Jones is reported to have looked at doing a Saturday edition in the past. However, one problem is that many of its subscribers receive their copies in their offices, where they are unlikely to be found on a Saturday morning.
The Wall Street Journal also publishes European and Asian editions.
