The penultimate instalment of BBC One's six-part travel series 'Stephen Fry in America', which saw the 'QI' presenter enjoying himself in the "real west", pulled in 6.6m viewers and a 25.7% share of the 9pm-10pm audience.
It beat the conclusion of two-part drama 'Sharpe's Peril', based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell and starring Sean Bean, which drew 4.6m viewers to ITV1 and an 18.8% share of the 9pm-10.30pm audience.
'Dragon's Den: The Dragons' Stories', which this week focused on how the only female dragon, Deborah Meaden, made her fortune in the leisure industry, attracted 3.3m viewers and a 12.9% share of the 9pm-10pm audience.
Channel 4's airing of action thriller 'The Transporter', starring Jason Statham, netted 1.8m viewers and a 7.5% share of the 9pm-10.45pm audience. Including Channel 4+1 figures it reached 2m viewers.
It beat Adam Sandler comedy 'The Longest Yard', which drew 1.6m viewers and a 7.9% of the 9pm-11.15pm audience to Five.
'X Factor' dominated the TV ratings on Saturday night, pulling in 10.2m viewers and a 42.5% share of the 7.15pm-8.45pm audience.
This week's guest star was Mariah Carey who coached the contestants and performed on the live show, which saw former favourite Laura White voted out.
It scored almost double the ratings achieved by BBC One's 'Merlin', which attracted 5.5m viewers and a 23% share of the 7.15pm-8pm audience.
Earlier in the evening 'Strictly Come Dancing' pulled in 9.6m viewers and a 42.4% share of the 6pm-7.15pm audience on BBC One.
