Freeview capitalises on Royal Wedding with corgi ad

Freeview has launched a £1.8m campaign featuring corgi dogs, which is designed to encourage consumers to upgrade to Freeview HD to watch the Royal Wedding.

The ad for the digital TV service was the last one created by 18 Feet & Rising, before the two companies parted ways earlier this month.

The ad aims to raise awareness of Freeview HD by showing a journey by three corgis, the breed of dog favoured by the Queen. The dogs are seen travelling from the countryside to London, to join their other corgi friends and watch the Royal Wedding.

The ad was produced by Somesuch & Co and directed by Daniel Wolfe, whose recent work includes award-winning music videos for Duffy and Plan B.

Owen Jenkinson, head of marketing at Freeview, commented: "The Royal Wedding is the most eagerly anticipated event of the year and a moment when the nation will be gathered around the TV. What better time to talk about the benefits of Freeview HD? We hope our dogs’ tale will touch the hearts of the British public."

The campaign will be supported by additional national and consumer press ads, advertorials, radio and digital.
