Four new UK venues for 2015: The Midlands and Wales

Wales and the Midlands are in the spotlight for their new venue openings this year, including the £30m Derby Arena and a £45m development in Cardiff.

OPENING... SUMMER 2015


As well as providing education and training facilities, the 16,000sqm Canal Parade campus at Cardiff and Vale College will offer a new destination for conferences and events. The £45m development, in the centre of the Welsh capital, is said to be the biggest building project in the city. Details on the exact event facilities are yet to be released, but it has been confirmed that there will be several function rooms with flexible indoor and outdoor space and views across the capital. Catering will be provided in-house. The project is part of the college's wider development programme.

Twr y Felin Hotel, Pembrokeshire, Wales

OPENING ... SUMMER 2015


Pitched as Wales' newest luxury hotel, Twr y Felin Hotel (translated as 'windmill hotel') is due to reopen in the summer. Originally a windmill, the property has been fully refurbished and extended. Its 20 en-suite bedrooms, restaurant, bar and public spaces are available for exclusive hire, and activities in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park can be arranged. The hotel is part of the Retreats Group, which also owns the nearby Roch Castle Hotel and Penrhiw Hotel. In the relaunch, Twr y Felin will join a select group of UK art hotels, with a collection of more than 100 pieces of art and sculpture.

MIDLANDS

Derby Arena

OPENING... JANUARY 2015

The £30m Derby Arena sports complex will have various uses when it becomes fully operational at the start of 2015. Located in Pride Park, on the outskirts of Derby, its key feature will be a 250-metre, world-class indoor cycling track with fixed seating for 1,500 spectators. There will also be an indoor sports hall capable of hosting large sports events, exhibitions, launches and concerts for audiences of up to 5,000. A suite of multi-purpose function rooms will provide further space for smaller events and meetings, and cycling sessions on the track will be available as part of incentive or team-building activities.

Vox Conference Centre, Birmingham

OPENING... SPRING 2015

Part of the £150m Resorts World leisure complex, the will be able to host up to 900 guests for a variety of events. It will be split between five suites that can be combined or divided to create multifunctional areas. The centre will be managed by the team at the International Conference Centre Birmingham. Other features include free wi-fi and tech such as a media wall and digital signage. Clients and organisers will be able to use the wide selection of facilities at Resorts World, including restaurants, bars, shops, a four-star hotel, spa, cinema and casino.
