Four in the frame for Hyundai European i10 launch task

Hyundai is close to appointing an agency for its pan-European launch of the i10 city car.

Four agencies, including the non-roster agencies Mother and The Bank, presented to Hyundai Motor Europe in Frankfurt this week. The car will launch in early 2008.

As well as the two UK agencies, the Korean car-maker saw presentations from its German incumbent, WOB, and the Spanish agency Revolution. A spokesman at the company's Frankfurt headquarters confirmed all four agencies had presented and that a decision would be made within the next two weeks.

VCCP is not involved in the pitch, but retains its role as the lead agency for Hyundai in the UK.

The i10 will be the smallest model in the Hyundai range, and has been developed to rival the Mini.

Hyundai announced in February that it would follow the lead of General Motors and Toyota and ask agencies to pitch for individual advertising projects.

Last year, Hyundai used the same strategy for its sister brand Kia. The company's Greek agency Breakfast won the pitch to launch the Sedona MPV and Sorento 4x4 models.
