Henry spent the past four years at ITV, where he was chief executive of its consumer division that oversaw ITV.com and its pay TV activities.

He previously held chief executive positions at the Hallmark Channel and Granada Sky Broadcasting.

David Archer, managing director of STV Ventures, said Henry will "bring valuable experience" in expanding STV's digital and consumer businesses.

ITV announced in November 2008 that Henry was to step down as the broadcaster merged its online operations into its main business.

ITV merged its digital operations, including ITV.com and Friends Reunited, under director of television Peter Fincham, who became director of television, channels and online.
