Gregory has been appointed as a consultant to Macquarie's UK Radio Holdings, which recently won the licence for a new FM station in Plymouth.
Having led the development of national radio brands such as Kiss and Magic until he left Emap last month, Gregory will now work on the launch of the local radio station to be known as Diamond FM.
His other responsibilities will include Macquarie's bids to secure other radio licences from media regulator Ofcom. It is currently bidding for a new station in North-East England and is likely to try for the Liverpool licence recently advertised by Ofcom.
During his time at Emap, Gregory helped develop its digital strategy and turned Magic 105.4 into the London market leader.
As the development director of Emap Performance, he worked with Schoonmaker, then its chief executive, on nine digital licence applications and on building Emap's presence on Freeview.
Schoonmaker left Emap in January 2004 and joined Macquarie following a short spell as chief executive of Odeon Cinemas.
He has been linked with a potential bid for GCap Media through the private equity fund Permira. He is set to float his Media Acquisition Company on AIM.
