Former chief Bob Offen bows out of MPG

Bob Offen has stepped down as the chief strategy and marketing officer for Media Planning Group Global.

According to Marc Mendoza, the chief executive of MPG UK, Offen, 48, will continue to work two days a week for the network, in a part-time consultancy role.

Offen, a former chief executive of MPG UK, took the network job at the beginning of 2003. Mendoza said there were no plans for a successor.

In 1989, Offen split Euro RSCG's media department and created a media agency, Mediastar, to compete with the media independents.

In 1996, he launched Media-polis, which added the media billings for WCRS and Young & Rubicam, and three years later the agency joined the Havas-owned MPG network.

Strong in Latin America, France and Spain, the MPG network is considered to have a patchy global spread. There is uncertainty over its future following Havas' failure in its bid for Grey Global, which would have hitched MPG to Grey's MediaCom network.
