Football League signs Octagon to market games internationally

LONDON - The Football League has inked a three-year deal with Octagon CSI to distribute the international TV rights to the Coca-Cola Football League and the Carling Cup.

The deal will see Octagon CSI internationally distribute the rights to all Coca-Cola Championship, league games and Carling Cup matches until 2009.

Football League matches are currently shown in more than 90 countries worldwide with a combined reach of 165m homes.

Lord Mawhinney, chairman of the Football League, said: "Interest in the Football League is growing internationally, as well as domestically, and our clubs will benefit through the substantially improved terms delivered by this agreement."

Chris Guinness, president of Octagon CSI, said: "This is a big vote of confidence from the Football League and we are delighted to be continuing our excellent relationship with them through to 2009.

"We know that the competition for this contract was intense, with three other companies bidding against us, so it is a tremendous achievement by all involved."
