Football fans do not want to pay to watch games

Most UK football fans will follow the next season's games on TV - but they are not prepared to put their hands in their pockets and pay, according to an OMD Snapshots poll for Marketing.

The survey, ahead of the football season's kick-off on Saturday, asked those who follow the sport about their plans for keeping up to date with coverage. The vast majority of respondents (74%) said they were not prepared to pay to watch matches.

However, when asked about the types of media they would use to follow coverage, most respondents (83%) said they did intend to watch games on TV. Less than a third (30%) said they would attend matches and 42% would read the press. A tiny proportion (3%) would use SMS bulletin services.
