Football bodies in anti-yob drive

A consortium of football's governing bodies, including FIFA, UEFA and the FA, is considering an anti-hooliganism campaign as part of a wider initiative to address crowd safety at major events.

The campaign is one of the options that will be considered after the consortium completes a research project into how the organisers of Euro 2004 dealt with violence, crowd safety and protection from potential terrorist threats.

The aim is to create a template of best practice to prevent violence and ensure crowd safety.

The research is being conducted by the Daniel Nivel Foundation, the body set up by FIFA and the football associations of France and Germany following the attack on the eponymous French policeman by German hooligans at the 1998 World Cup.
