According to the internet service provider, latest figures for the 30 days up to May 26 show that searches for the Manchester United and England star rocketed, with fans eager for the latest updates on his foot injury.
Best days for Rooney searches coincided with the results of scans on his injured foot on April 30 and May 26 with a further surge expected on June 7, when a final scan is set to reveal whether he will play a part in the tournament.
Andy Williams, senior search content producer at Yahoo! UK & Ireland, said: "A sharp rise in Yahoo! searches for news about Rooney was no coincidence as the hopes of the nation rest on the condition of his broken foot."
The second most searched for England player is David Beckham, with Steven Gerrard, who scored in this week's friendly match against Hungary, in third.
New England recruit Theo Walcott, who at the same Hungary match became the youngest ever England player, is third, ahead of Frank Lampard, John Terry, Michael Owen, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole, who make up the rest of the top 10.
The findings are based on searches made on Yahoo! Search by 5.1m unique UK users.
