Focus on ... MOBO Awards

The MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards have run since 1996, with categories covering R'n'B, hip hop, reggae, world music and jazz.

- Music of black origin accounts for 20% of all album sales in the UK, according to the BPI.

- Nominees this year range from Mariah Carey to Snoop Dogg and Lemar.

- In 2004 the winners included Usher for best R'n'B artist and Kanye West, who won for best album and best hip hop act.

- Last year's ceremony was broadcast across 30 countries to an audience of 250m.

- The awards' sponsors include MTV Base and Lloyds TSB.
