The 13-episode drama has been dubbed the new 'Lost'.
It will debut in the US during prime time at 8pm on Thursday September 24th, before Golden Globe award-winning drama 'Grey's Anatomy'.
Five has acquired the exclusive UK terrestrial and digital rights for Fiver and Five USA.
Like 'Lost' before it, also produced by ABC, 'FlashForward' is a high concept, character-driven drama based on a novel by Robert J Swayer.
It tells the story of a mysterious event which causes the entire world to suffer a brief blackout (two minutes and 17 seconds). Everyone sees a vision of their own future in six months' time on a specific date, April 29, 2010.
Every man, woman and child is then forced to come to grips with whether their destinies can be avoided or fulfilled.
Fiennes, best known for 'Shakespeare in Love' and Jack Davenport, 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'This Life' are part of an ensemble cast including John Cho, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, Brian O'Byrne, Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton and Peyton List.
The series has been written by David S Goyer, co-writer of 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight', who is also executive producer and director. Brannon Braga, '24' and 'Star Trek: Enterprise', is executive producer and co-wrote the pilot.
Jeff Ford, managing director, digital channels and acquisitions at Five, said: "When we saw the pilot at the LA Screenings this year, we knew it would be perfect for our channels and make a fantastic addition to our autumn line up."
Catherine Powell, senior VP programme distribution EMEA (North), Disney-ABC-ESPN Television, said: "The buzz surrounding 'FlashForward' has been rapidly growing internationally and from our very early discussions Five shared the same excitement and enthusiasm.
"They also have an impressive track record of breaking US shows in the UK and will be an energetic and creative marketing partner to ensure we make the most of 'FlashForward''s clear appeal to British viewers."
