'Big Love', described as an "unorthodox" 12-episode TV series, is set to hit British television screens in late spring after Five won the exclusive terrestrial rights to the HBO Entertainment drama.
Due to be aired in the US next month, America's Time magazine has said the show "may prove to be... the next cool thing on TV".
The cast includes Bill Paxton, who appeared in 'A Simple Man', indie film favourite Chloe Sevigny and Hollywood legend Harry Dean Stanton.
Dan Chambers, Five's director of programming, said: "HBO has an enviable reputation for making hit dramas that are both unorthodox and engaging."
Other HBO hit series include 'Sex and the City' and 'The Sopranos'.
Five has had some major successes with American imports, including the Hugh Laurie-led hospital drama 'House' and the 'CSI' franchise. However, it also spent a great deal of money to secure 'Joey', the follow-up to 'Friends', which has largely left critics and audiences cold.
