Five HD will join Sky following on Monday (15 March) that it has withdrawn the Freeview capacity from Five after it failed to provide the regulator with a launch date for the channel.
Five HD will simulcast the terrestrial channel Five with shows such as 'CSI' and 'FlashForward', blockbuster films and international cricket, all broadcast in high definition.
Five said its content is better suited to high definition than its terrestrial competitors Channel 4, available on Sky and Virgin and ITV, which launched on 2 April.
Charles Constable, director of strategy at Five, said: "Our programme schedule is more suited to HD than that any other major free-to-air commercial broadcaster given the wide range of high quality series we broadcast, such as our top-rated line-up of US dramas."
Five HD is the 42nd high definition channel to commit to being available on Sky, which is aiming to offer 50 HD channels by Christmas 2010.
Five HD will not be available on Freeview until at least 2012 when the fifth HD channel launches and Five said it will apply for the capacity when it is advertised by Ofcom next year.
