Finance brands eye rugby fans

Rival bank brands Intelligent Finance (IF) and Abbey are both targeting Scottish rugby fans after striking sponsorship deals with the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU).

IF has signed up as title sponsor of the IRB (International Rugby Board) Under-21 World Championship, to be held at six venues across Scotland from 11-27 June.

The five-figure deal includes a supporting marketing campaign, with TV, press, radio, outdoor and email activity.

IF will collaborate with Scottish tourism organisations to deliver the campaign, which is designed to reach 2m adults.

Abbey, meanwhile, will be title sponsor of the senior Scotland team's November Test matches against Japan, Australia and South Africa. The games will be screened live by the BBC, though the Japan match will only be broadcast on BBC Scotland.

The finance brands join The Famous Grouse and Canterbury Clothing on the SRU's roster of sponsors.
