The magazine, which remains the UK's biggest selling men's monthly, said average US subscriptions were up 199% year-on-year to 443,173 while newsstand sales were up 9% to 400,954 in the second half of 2001, according to the latest US ABC figures.
Marcus Rich, president of the Emap Metro USA, said: "FHM has established itself as a newsstand powerhouse, both among its competitive set and throughout the industry."
He added: "These numbers are proof positive that FHM's editorial mix is right on target for an ever-growing number of readers."
In the UK FHM recorded a 20.4% drop in sales year-on-year for the July to December period to 570,719 from 716,679 a year earlier.
The magazine is currently offering US readers the chance to subscribe for $9.98 for 12 issues, which works out at 83 cents an issue.
FHM is also published in Singapore, Australia, Turkey, Malaysia, France, South Africa, the Philippines, Romania, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany and Russia. It launched in the US in February 2000.
