Ferrero Rocher selects Publicis for £3m ad job

Ferrero UK has picked Publicis to devise a £3m pre-Christmas television campaign for its Ferrero Rocher brand.

The appointment marks the Italian confectionery company's latest attempt to come up with an idea as memorable as its notorious 'Ambassador's reception' ad.

The new creative is expected to be set within a social setting, in line with previous campaigns. Ferrero has also briefed Publicis to develop a campaign that will work across a variety of media.

The Italian confectionery company spends nearly £11m a year in the UK advertising its brands, which also include Kinder Surprise, Kinder Bueno, Nutella and Tic Tac.

Ferrero Rocher, the UK's top-selling boxed chocolate brand outside the twist-wrap sector, has been without an agency since splitting from Banks Hoggins O'Shea/FCB in April.

Banks Hoggins took over the brand from Ferrero's in-house agency, Publiregia, at the end of 1999.

It devised the replacement to Publiregia's 'Ambassador's reception' ad, 'Give Ferrero Rocher ... grudgingly' campaign. This featured a dinner party hostess (Emmerdale's Anna Brecon) battling with herself over whether to share her chocolates with her guests.

Ferrero earlier this year handed WCRS its £2.5m Tic Tac and Kinder Bueno brands, and Leagas Delaney its Kinder Surprise brand.
