French Connection has appointed L'Oreal senior product manager
Matthew Griffiths as its marketing director.
Griffiths replaces Claire Dobbie, who left last month to join strategic
marketing consultancy Branded. Before L'Oreal Griffiths held marketing
manager roles at Charles Worthington and Habitat. He will report to
French Connection chief executive Stephen Marks.
Griffiths will take responsibility for French Connection's pounds 2m
marketing spend. Its controversial marketing has not escaped the
attention of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which has
recently upheld 132 complaints that French Connection's poster,
advertising its internet site fcukinkybugger.com, is offensive.
The company's annual profits in the year to March rose by 20.7%, with
retail sales up 22.4% to pounds 94.3m.
Dobbie left French Connection 18 months after joining from Nike where
she was communications director. She said her departure was not related
to the ASA's investigations.
