Jones' task will be to reconstruct and reposition FCB London and provide leadership of the agency; the previous chairman and chief executive, John Banks, left last month. FCB saw its billings fall by 23% during 2004 to £67.6m, according to Nielsen Media Research.
On his arrival, Jones will begin rebuilding the agency's management team. Jonathan Rigby, its managing director, and David Bain, its planning director, left earlier this year. However, Omnicom is expected to insist Jones serves his six-month notice period.
After starting his career at BMP DDB, Jones became the agency's head of account planning in 1991. He left to launch the DM agency Jones Mason Barton Antenen in 1999 and subsequently became Claydon Heeley's chief executive after it merged with Jones Mason in 2001.
Jones will report to Steve Blamer, FCB Worldwide's chief executive, and work on bringing FCB London closer to its global offering.
Jones said: "I am delighted by the appointment and the challenge that lies ahead. I am looking forward to working with Blamer and helping him make changes to FCB."
