
The campaign is funded by the Centre for Consumer Freedom, a body that routinely attacks animal rights charity Peta and is critical of moves to penalise the fast-food industry for the obesity epidemic.
In a press ad headlined "Confused about Mad Cow?", it says that Harvard scientists have said that the risk to Americans is "as close to zero as you can get" and invites people to visit its for more information.
Earlier this week, Peta launched its own advertising campaign showing a chicken armed with an M16 assault rifle with the caption: "If the beef doesn't kill you, I will". It is pushing a vegetarian diet with claims that eating any meat is bad, unhealthy and dangerous.

The Centre for Consumer Freedom is backed by the fast food industry. Other campaigns it runs include moves to stop obesity lawsuits against food manufacturers and opposition to suggestions that a "fat tax" should be introduced.
