The Famous Grouse launches new character in TV spot

LONDON - Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO has created a playmate for the 12-year-old Famous Grouse bird to launch a new whisky, The Black Grouse.

The TV spot, which airs this month in the lead-up to Christmas, will feature the Scottish game bird with its roguish cousin The Black Grouse.

The ad "stormy night" breaks on Friday on Channel 4, during Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live.

Although The Black Grouse whisky launched in pubs, clubs, bars and Sainsbury’s in May, it will not be available on general release until January.

Alan Foster, a creative at AMV BBDO, which created the ad with Brett James, said: The Black Grouse adds a touch of mystery and is a natural show-off who loves to make an entrance in his signature black and white world.

"So he is a bit of a card. It goes with the territory – but his behaviour isn’t territorial. He prefers to appear unorthodox and unpredictable, to keep us guessing."

Jerry Hibbert of Hibbert Ralph Animation animated the new Black Grouse character.
