In a , the social media giant’s director of product management Mary Ku said Marketplace would be available via a shop icon at the bottom of the Facebook app.
It opens with pictures of items that people near the user have listed for sale and results can be filtered by search keywords or category.
After finding an item of interest, the user can then send the user a direct message and make an offer. Facebook said it does not get involved with the payment or delivery of items in Marketplace.
Yu said: "Marketplace makes it easy to find new things you’ll love, and find a new home for the things you’re ready to part with.
