Eyre exits suddenly from RTL

LONDON - Richard Eyre, the Pearson Television chief executive and director of pan-European broadcasting group RTL, has unexpectedly resigned after less than 15 months in the job.

Eyre, former chief executive of the ITV network, succeeded Greg Dyke as CEO of Pearson Television when Dyke left to take up the director general’s job at the BBC. Eyre had been previously been group chief executive at Capital Radio.

Eyre is understood to have been frustrated when his job changed as a result of the merger of Pearson’s TV interests with those of Bertelsmann and Vivendi to create RTL. Eyre has since added the role of director of strategy and content to his position of CEO.

Eyre will leave at the end of March. He is to be replaced by Tony Cohen, chief executive of worldwide production at Pearson Television.

Bruno Chauvat, RTL’s managing director, will assume responsibility for the strategy department.

RTL’s shares were unchanged yesterday at €85.5 (£54.5).
