Express moves ad chief to magazines

Express Newspapers is shifting a key advertising manager out of the group's newspaper division into its sister magazine arm.

The Northern & Shell-owned publisher said it had no plans to replace Jane Putley, currently display advertising controller for titles such as the Daily Express and Daily Star, who is taking on the same role overseeing magazine brands OK!, New and Star in the next few weeks.

Putley will work alongside Renee Myerson, contract controller, and Sam How, advertising manager for celebrity magazines. Stan Myerson, joint managing director of Express Newspapers, denied the move was a cost-cutting exercise, adding that Putley's responsibilities would be taken on by existing senior group heads.

It is thought that Melanie Danks, head of trading, will now head the division.

The move comes amid a backdrop of mixed circulation performance at Express Newspapers and Northern & Shell magazines.

ABC figures for March show that Daily Express circulation fell by 3.3% from February to 736, 634 copies. However, OK!'s circulation in February stood at 683,000 copies, up by more than 22% from last August.
