Expedia to back C4 weather news

Expedia is making its television sponsorship debut with a multimillion-pound deal to sponsor Channel 4's weather reports.

The 12-month sponsorship, which begins at the start of March, covers lunchtime and evening bulletins and will run online and on Channel 4's mobile and interactive TV weather services. It was negotiated by Drum PHD.

The online travel agent will use the sponsorship to highlight its range of holidays. A series of credits by Clemmow Hornby Inge (CHI) will show animated holidaymakers choosing holidays on the basis of the type of weather they want.

CHI resigned Expedia's £12m business after clashes with marketing director Elysa Chowdhury (Marketing, 16 February).

Separately, Expedia has appointed Lambie Nairn to work on developing its brand as online competition intensifies between travel firms.
