Exhibitor Preview: IDM Fair

From database solutions, software, mailing and print production to fulfilment techniques and promotional ideas, this year's IDM Fair has it all. Our preview aims to give you a flavour of the exhibitors.

DATA & DATABASE SERVICES

Acxes Data - Stand 724

Following its merger with Mediaprisme, Acxes Data will have experts from the UK and other European countries at its stand answering visitors' questions and offering advice on campaign planning and analysis services. These include list planning and buying for B2B and consumer campaigns, buying lists for direct mail, telephone marketing, and UK and international e-mail and SMS campaigns.

Acxiom UK - Stand 1056

Acxiom will demonstrate how, with the help of newly acquired Claritas Europe, it delivers customer data integration and consumer information solutions to the pan-European market.

AFD Software Stand 1008

Address management software provider AFD Software is launching Censation, a geodemographic system based on the latest Census, delivered free as part of AFD Software's addressing and batch-cleansing product, Postcode. The company claims Censation can help marketers look for new insights into customers and prospects to help focus resources on those most likely to build business, or to help locate the best site for a new store or service.

AP Information Services - Stand 800

Information provider Information Services will be presenting its online mailing list service, together with its new Quick Search facility. Live demonstrations of the website will be held at the Fair, showing delegates how to select and purchase their ideal mailing list online from a database of more than 120,000 named business contacts. The company will also showcase the 19th edition of The Marketing Manager's Yearbook (published in January 2004), with more than 47,000 marketing decision-makers from major UK companies, plus 4,000 essential suppliers and advisers to the marketing sector.

Avongate - Stand 618

List management and list broking specialist Avongate will illustrate its expertise in B2C data, particularly on lists for the healthcare market, and will also showcase its range of opt-in e-mail and SMS data.

Callcredit - Stand 504

Callcredit, part of the Skipton Information Group, will be present with EuroDirect and GMAP. The company will exhibit its credit and marketing data solutions, which address the issues facing direct marketers within the financial services, mail-order and utilities sectors. Some of the issues it tackles include fraud, verification and over-indebtedness.

Capscan - Stand 308

As well as demonstrating its address management product, Matchcode, Capscan will also be publicising the AMAS-accredited Matchcode International for Australia. This product has recently been updated to meet Australia Post's latest requirements, and now contains supplementary data over and above the Australian postal file, through Capscan's partnership with Australian-based Pacific Micro Marketing. Visitors can access advice and information on its partnership with Uniserve GmbH, which enables Capscan to support address datasets for most European countries. There will also be a prize draw on the stand where winners will receive a magnum of champagne.

Caspian Partnership - Stand 856

Caspian Partnership will showcase its range of traditional DM services, including client and agency expertise in both B2B and consumer sectors, which it claims offers a one-stop solution covering all aspects of data acquisition and management, copywriting, design and creative services, through to getting the message delivered. A visit to the stand will also provide the opportunity to consider the newly available information on Cardata and a new B2B suppression file.

Circulation Data Services - Stand 595

Database solutions provider Circulation Data Services will be exhibiting for the first time at the Fair. The organisation specialises in fulfilment and circulation management, database services, event registration management, web-based applications, custom-built data solutions and e-mail broadcasting in the publishing, events and exhibitions industries. It will showcase its e-mail gateway system, which complements its e-mail broadcast system, and a newly launched package that is capable of sending up to 1.2 million e-mails an hour.

Colourways - Stand 739

Colourways, which provides total DM marketing solutions for companies such as Walkers Snacks and Clinton Cards, will showcase its products and services for the first time at the show. These include DM campaign concepts, creative, B2C and B2B data, sales promotion, print and project management, and fulfilment.

Conduit - Stand 830

Conduit will exhibit its updated business intelligence solutions and discuss with delegates how to transform low-value customers into high-value ones, and make more money from existing high-value customers. Conduit will also demonstrate its work with Tamms Direct, a supplier of B2B telecoms equipment, to help boost the value of the Tamms Direct database. Visitors to the stand are invited to undergo a free data health check of their current data.

Data Locator - Stand 514

Data Locator will showcase its new website, Vouch4me.com, which offers companies a facility to sponsor their own surveys with questions directly relevant to their business. It will also capture consumer data that is not typically prevalent on traditional lifestyle databases. There will also be live demonstrations of CallConnector, a virtual predictive dialling service that enables small sales teams and call centres to think and act like their larger counterparts, but without the added delay.

DPS Direct Mail - Stand 734

DPS will discuss how its recent investment in new equipment and the continued development of the cygnus data processing tool has allowed the company to extend the boundaries of what can be expected from data processing, laser printing and enclosing services.

Ebiquita - Stand 1108

Ebiquita will use the show to launch three products. The first is a consumer verification service, incorporating online credit and identity verification/validation. The second, Beyond Data, offers online delivery of leads and prospects enhanced with lifestyle and psychographic data. The third is a service that will offer profiling and analysis.

EDM Media - Stand 1120

EDM Media offers list management and list broking. It promises to help clients generate extra revenues by renting their customer databases to approved third parties, and can help them plan direct marketing campaigns by offering expert advice on buying the best lists to achieve maximum ROI. EDM has offices in France, Germany and the Netherlands.

Equifax - Stand 804

Equifax will use the Fair to launch products and services such as Lifestyle Advance - a new source of more than four million lifestyle data records; Pre-Movers, a product that enables direct marketers to target consumers before they move house; and Dimensions, Equifax's consumer database, enhanced with the 2003 Edited Electoral Roll. Equifax will also be announcing a new partnership that it says will bring together two industry experts and promise to create a comprehensive marketing data service.

Eurodirect & GMap Consulting - Stand 504

EuroDirect will be launching tools including the recently redeveloped and rebranded Microvision product (formerly DemoGraf). This enables marketers to analyse and target customers, and empowers estate managers and strategic planners to understand and manage their markets, optimise network and territory configurations and perform "what if?" scenarios. Also on show will be a new suite of six Cameo classifications: UK, financial, investor, income, property and unemployment, which will stand alongside the expanding range of International Cameo Classifications.

Everyinvestor - Stand 550

Everyinvestor provides advertising solutions for companies seeking to promote financial products and services. Visit the stand to learn about the variety of services on offer, including advertising, sponsorship, list rental, lead-to-purchase data collection, and help to target the right financial consumer.

Experian - Stand 604

Experian will launch a range of B2C and B2B products at the show. These include Canvasse Opinion, a facility that helps organisations gain an accurate and up-to-date insight into the views and needs of customers and prospects. It will also launch Canvasse Selections, a series of sector-specific prospect lists, and the National Business Database, which comprises data from Thomson, Companies House, and Yell Data Business.

Hilite Direct Marketing Services - Stand 928

Hilite will be discussing the benefits that membership of the recently launched Hilite Data Club Data Club membership can bring to direct marketers. The club offers free information concerning mail-order buyers on an individual, name-by-name basis. Visit the stand for more details on the free membership on offer to all Hilite-managed list owners.

HLB - Stand 910

HLB staff will be on hand at the show to answer questions relating to all aspects of the company's list broking, data planning and list management functions.

Identex - Stand 314

Identex will be launching a new approach to data at its stand, which helps clients generate a positive ROI using software tools and analytical techniques for quick wins and long-term customer value. Identex solution consultants will also be available to demonstrate Visual Miner - Identex's analytic software tool.

Independent Direct Marketing - Stand 591

Independent Direct Marketing will advise visitors on more than 100 lists and package insert opportunities available from its managed programme portfolio. The company will also discuss the additions to its client services this year, including print design, online design, production, bureau services, mailing house services, database and subscription management.

Interactive Prospect Targeting - Stand 555

IPT is a provider of e-mail direct marketing solutions in the data and services arenas. It will demonstrate its MyOffers product, which collects consumer data from more than 300,000 individuals every month across a range of incentivised questionnaires, with responders specifically opting-in to receiving e-mail communications from sponsors. Other products that can be seen and discussed on the stand include OK-mail, a database of opt-in e-mail addresses, and EmailBureau, an e-mail delivery service incorporating some of the latest broadcast technology and campaign reporting software.

Iopas Marketing - Stand 599

Iopas Marketing will be on hand during the Fair to talk about its experience in telemarketing, appointment making, lead-generation, database cleaning and a range of other sales and marketing initiatives that include mystery shopping, market research and e-mail broadcasting.

ListLab - Stand 716

ListLab will announce the addition of 21 lists to its portfolio since the last IDMF. Areas covered include finance and publishing, health and mail order, DRTV, competition and wealth opportunity, and business-to-business, with more than 18.5 million names available. It will also be hosting its customary party on the first night of the Fair.

The Preference Service - Stand 435

Consumer preference data company The Preference Service will launch its attitudinal based geo-marketing tool called StreetLife. This allows marketers to select from attitudinal, demographic and lifestyle data from the company's consumer surveys, which hold information from more than three million households, combined with the latest Census and Electoral Roll data.

Prolog - Stand 408

Market support and communications company Prolog will demonstrate its range of integrated services, from mail-order, e-commerce and other distance-selling, to bulk storage, collation and distribution of literature in the volumes needed to support nationwide campaigns or public-service information projects. Delivery also encompasses kit collations, storage and distribution of point-of-purchase materials, state-of-the-art telephone marketing and multi-channel customer contact centres.

Response Direct Publishing (RDP) - Stand 450

Consumer lead-generation specialist Response Direct Publishing (RDP) will be featuring News Flash, the latest addition to its portfolio of consumer card decks (co-operative mailings).Targeted at consumers at home whose profiles match readers of newspapers the News of the World and The Sun, Newsflash will make its first appearance in March this year and will be mailed to 400,000 tabloid readers.

Visitors will also be able to find out about Kiddies Collection, the company's latest response catalogue targeted at pregnant mothers and families with young children, as well as The Gallery, a booklet targeted at affluent individuals who are proven mail-order buyers. In addition to this, RDP will feature the Consumer Information Centre, an A5 response booklet targeted at ABC1 households and distributed nationally, and Travellers Oasis, a 16-page A5 travel market specific booklet, distributed by inserts into targeted up-market publications to travel consumers. It will also show its portfolio of nine card-deck titles.

Schlumbergersema Infodata AB - Stand 424

A first-time exhibitor at IDMF, Schlumbergersema Infodata AB is launching EuroContactPool - an online marketing tool that provides data on 10 million European businesses. EuroContactPool can also be used to purchase official company profiles and credit rating reports, and data can be downloaded straight to the user's desktop for contacts, campaigns and information.

Thomson Directories - Stand 646

Database provider Thomson Directories will demonstrate its full B2B product range, including its latest online database and e-mail services. Its new pay-for-performance search engine marketing service will also be demonstrated.

Business Search PRO CD-Rom V.14 of the database Business Search PRO On-Line will also be launched at the show. The stand will offer information about e-mail marketing solutions for business, as well as WebFinder.com, which drives targeted sales leads to company websites by promoting them on search engines.

Wegener Direct Marketing - Stand 520

Wegener Direct Marketing will be showcasing its latest offering, which promises to enhance the company's current portfolio of B2B and B2C data and direct marketing services, mailing fulfilment, CRM and list broking/management services. Wegener will also address the issues facing the data industry at three seminars. These will examine how marketers can get the most from their data; how to analyse and profile customers, and how to target customers when they are at their most receptive.

SOFTWARE & NEW MEDIA

Snap Survey Software

Mercator Computer Systems - Stand 731

Snap Survey provides software and services that promise to conduct paper or web-based surveys with minimal cost and effort. A visit to the stand will provide detailed information on all that Snap Survey has to offer, including survey outsourcing services, training, consultancy, seminars and support, covering customer, marketing and opinion surveys, with solutions offered for web, paper or PDA-delivered surveys.

MOBILE MARKETING

MindMatics - Stand 313

MindMatics operates its own mobile database, now with more than 12 million opt-in profiles across Europe, and provides five technology platforms for message delivery via SMS, MMS, WAP, e-mail and IVR. Visitors to the stand are offered more in-depth information on how it provides direct connections to all operators at market-leading tariffs and how its technical team carries out product development.

Mkodo - Stand 247

Mkodo, the interactive mobile messaging specialist, will launch its latest product enhancement, mkodo Interactive Messaging Platform (IMP). The product enables marketers to develop and manage mobile marketing campaigns and commerce services from the convenience of their own desktops. To showcase IMP 4, mkodo will be demonstrating the benefits of mobile messaging through a live campaign on behalf of show organiser Reed Exhibitions. Opted-in visitors will receive a show reminder message before the event, a second message during the Fair, and post-event surveys, all via their mobile phone.

MAILING & FULFILMENT

Aspect Marketing Services - Stand 1015

Aspect Marketing Services will be sharing its stand with sister company MacDonald Mailing, acquired by the Orbital Group in September 2003. It will showcase ±±¾©Èü³µpk10Xec, a software package that allows clients to monitor the success of their campaigns online. Aspect handles all response and fulfilment campaigns, such as data capture and telemarketing, while MacDonald Mailing is responsible for all direct-mail activity, including laser and ink-jet personalisation, envelope enclosing print production, and flow-wrapping.

Computermail - Stand 720

Computermail, supplier of direct mail systems, is the exclusive distributor within the UK and Ireland for the Buhrs Group. It offers film and paper wrapping solutions, envelope inserting systems, intelligent boxing systems, press wholesale systems, control systems and application-specific Buhrs Systems Integration Solutions. A visit to the stand will offer the opportunity of discussing systems requirements with Computermail's staff.

Continuforms Holdings (CFH) - Stand 120

CFH will be showing visitors how to turn critical communications into marketing opportunities and demonstrating how the inclusion of mechanical features in communications can make them more effective than the usual pieces of paper. The company will also talk about its work with Toptree, which allows CFH to put something back into the environment by sourcing material from responsibly managed forests.

Deutsche Post Global Mail (UK) - Stand 610

Deutsche Post, part of the 39 billion euro Deutsche Post WorldNet Group and the second-largest mail company in the world, will showcase its offerings of international business mail capabilities to UK organisations wanting to send direct mail, catalogues, periodicals and letters to major cities across Europe, North America, Asia/Pacific and Australia.

Granby Marketing Services - Stand 121

Granby Marketing Services is launching SCOPe (stock control order processing in an e-environment), a system designed to provide online reporting of promotional handling to Granby's clients. Visitors will also be able to learn about Granby's marketing response management services, including response-handling, mailing and fulfilment, standard and bespoke reporting and analysis, consumer service handling, and warehousing.

Inkfish Services - Stand 652

Mailing and fulfilment specialist Inkfish Services will unveil details of its new mailing facility at Coventry, due to become operational in June 2004, which will introduce additional services, including polywrapping and C4 enclosing. The Inkfish team will be on hand to explain all the direct marketing services to be provided at the new site, as well as the fulfilment services, such as brochures, pick-and-pack and procurement work, carried out at its Burnley site.

Opex Corporation - Stand 848

Opex will announce the launch of the AS3600i integrated extractor/scanner, which allows document capture at the point of extraction from the envelope and eliminates the labour involved with traditional document and batch preparation. Visitors to the stand can find out more about the company's worldwide operation and its range of mail-processing services.

Offshore Distribution & Fulfilment - Stand 1016

Offshore Distribution & Fulfilment, a call centre and fulfilment facility in the Channel Islands, is launching an auto-ordering/rolling order facility that clients will be able to use with customers who order items on a regular basis.

Royal Mail - Stand 110

The theme for this year's stand is "marketing effectiveness", and Royal Mail will be offering solutions on gaining more from marketing communications and discussing how advertisers can use mail media to implement effective customer acquisition, retention and development strategies. It will also feature a number of its products, services and tools, including Data Realiser, Universal Suppression Service, DM Online, Royal Mail CMAT and Digital Marketeer. The company will demonstrate its mailing and unaddressed services, such as Mailsort, Presstream and Door to Door.

Twofold - Stand 1100

Twofold will be launching the DM30 Desktop Mailer, which allows companies to send direct mail using their own desktop-sized folder inserter. Visitors can find out how direct mail runs of up to 3,000 per month can be carried out in-house with minimal training. The company will also have equipment on display with the ability to cope with a range of mailshot requirements.

INSERTS

ETS Insert Control - Stand 242

The ETS stand will focus on how to increase media insert campaign response rates through managed logistics. There will also be demonstrations of the ETS web information system and experts will be on hand to talk about the issues often encountered with insert campaign management.

ENVELOPES

Washington Envelopes - Stand 814

Washington Envelopes, a manufacturer of 50 million bespoke envelopes a week, will exhibit its wallet-style envelopes, suitable for high-speed machine insertion, and its 'Lithoflex' envelopes that now come in eight colours and promise to provide a more cost-effective option to traditional offset litho printed envelopes.

PRINT & PRODUCTION

Denny Brothers - Stand 130

Specialist printing supplier Denny Brothers will be demonstrating its informaxx marketing tool - a credit card-sized leaflet within laminated covers that carries product or service information straight to the consumer. As a pocket-sized medium, informaxx is designed to encourage retention of information by the recipient, and the device can be used as a mini brochure, guide, or as a promotional tool to enclose vouchers or data-capture mechanisms.

Greys Packaging - Stand 1021

Greys will market its eight-colour flexographic printing press, which enables a fast turnaround time and high print quality. The company will also be exhibiting a selection of printed mailing bags and films in different materials, such as metallic, holographic, opaque and clear. Visitors can find out how flexible packaging solutions can add impact to promotions.

KAS - Stand 749

KAS Paper Systems will exhibit examples of its enveloping, polywrapping and insertion equipment at the show. The Mailmaster 465HS, which has been developed for ease of operation and quick changeover, inserts material into a range of envelopes from DL-sized to oversized C4, with a maximum packing thickness of 15mm, at speeds of up to 6,000 envelopes an hour. It has additional features including OMR, BCR and OCR facilities, in-line folding, book feeding and management information packages. The company will demonstrate the flexibility of its polywrapper, which can be fed into a number of automatic feeders. It can also be combined with Mailmaster 465 to provide both polywrapping and enveloping using the same system.

Kern - Stand 680

Direct marketing agency Kern will showcase its newly enhanced range of products, such as the K2500 and K3500 high-speed inserting systems, and a range of modular enhancements, including new direct entry and single page high-speed feeders, disguised mail technology, and the latest reading systems. Partner products include the Omega sortation system from NPI, pressure seal and banding technology, and the latest in shrink-wrapping from Kern's newest partner, Hugo Beck. Kern will offer the opportunity to discuss specific customer requirements.

MetroMail - Stand 104

MetroMail will discuss the selective inserting facilities on its polywrapping and enveloping lines, which allow clients to choose exactly which inserts are to be sent to which customers, according to segment characteristics.

PFE International - Stand 750

PFE International will exhibit the Automailer 5 production mailing machine, alongside ColourSeal, a one-piece colour mailer system. Also on display will be Maximailer, an intelligent mailing system that offers complete flexibility, from a few hundred letters per day up to large monthly volumes. The firm claims Maximailer can be configured to almost any application and can run at speeds of up to 4,500 filled envelopes per hour.

Pindar - Stand 736

Pindar helps its customers develop their catalogue strategies, from content management, e-commerce and page make-up, to design, photography, print production, and mailing and fulfilment. Visit the stand to find out how recent investments have focused on an expansion of services and technologies including a second 48-page web offset press, custom-designed photography studios, binding capabilities and increased mailing and fulfilment operations.

Pitney Bowes - Stand 340

The Pitney Bowes stand will demonstrate how businesses can maximise the impact of their mail and messaging campaigns through "intelligent mail" solutions. Pitney Bowes will present its entire portfolio, from SoHo track-and-trace technology to high-volume inserting and sorting platforms. The company will also launch the Pitney Bowes' Advanced Flexibility Series Inserter.

Visitors to the stand will witness demonstrations of real-life hardware and software solutions and Pitney Bowes experts will also be on hand to offer advice.

Target Direct Print - Stand 649

Visit the Target Direct Print stand to find out how the company can help in handling complex and varied direct marketing campaigns, particularly when time to market matters. Target Direct Print will also give full details on its flexible print management operation, a new brand of print management.

Warnes Mail Marketing - Stand 840

Warnes Mail Marketing offers a variety of production services for direct mail campaigns, from design and typesetting and litho-printing, database design, database management and call-handling solutions, through to data-processing, laser-printing and ink-jet addressing and all forms of paper enveloping and polythene wrapping. Experienced staff on the stand will demonstrate and discuss the range of Warnes Mail Marketing services.

PROMOTIONAL SERVICES

ICE 3 - Stand 14

Cardboard engineer Ice 3 will discuss its work with Encyclopaedia Britannica, which asked the company to design a promotional POS display unit to hold and promote copies of "all the information you need in one compact and authoritative volume" - the newest 2004 edition Almanac. Ice 3 is exhibiting one of the units on its stand and will talk about its range of products, including magazine inserts, direct mail pieces, sales aids, point of purchase displays and packaging solutions.

Point of Sale Centre - Stand 230

The Point of Sale Centre will present its range of point-of-purchase and display accessories on its stand. These accessories are available by mail order or from stock and include literature dispensers, poster holders and hangers, menu and message holders, bottle crowners, product merchandisers, shelf management systems, loop nylon fixings, wobbler strips, acrylic displays, hanging systems, suckers, magnets and much more.

Smurfit Display - Stand 235

Smurfit Display, a supplier of point-of-sale material, will show visitors its new LAMA product, designed and patented by Francois L'Hotel. Lama is a foldable and foldaway automatic display column, which promises to eliminate assembly nightmares and provide the market with an effective and economic point-of-purchase product.

INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS

Advertising Standards Authority - Stand 129

Staff from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to those planning e-mail or SMS campaigns as a result of the data protection regulations introduced in 2003. The regulations state that companies must comply with the CAP Code and acquire explicit consent from consumers before targeting via e-mail or SMS messaging.
