Exhibition organiser forced into last-minute change of after-party venue

The Business Travel and Meetings Show at Earls Court had to change the location of its after-party, hours before the event took place, after it emerged that the proposed venue was boarded up.

After-party organisers visited The Crescent Club in Kensington to prepare the space but had to hastily rearrange once they discovered the venue had unexpectedly closed, eventually moving 500 guests to Studio Valbonne in Soho instead.

"The team turned up to find The Crescent Club empty and boarded up at 3pm," said Zoe Asbery, marketing executive at Centaur, organiser of the Business Travel and Meetings Show. "We had to find another venue that could take us – and sort out canapés and drinks for a party that was due to start at 6pm."

Frantic phone calls resulted in Studio Valbonne accommodating the event.

"Then we had to let all the exhibitors know about the change of venue by printing out leaflets and arranging buses for them," added Asbery. "The party went off without a hitch and most people were unaware of what we'd been through."

Centaur is now trying to recover its booking fee from The Crescent Club. The latter did not answer Event's calls.

The Business Travel and Meetings Show finished today (10 February).
