Excite UK unveils new range of ad formats

LONDON - Excite UK is hoping to boost its appeal to advertisers with a new range of online advertising formats, which include "skyscraper ads" and another format dubbed "big fat ads".

Skyscraper ads run the length of an online page, big fat ads are almost as high as they are wide and another new offering sees the introduction of DHTML, which allows moving, interactive images to be portrayed on-screen.

Skyscraper ads have already been bought by MindShare for IBM and will run on Excite UK's computer channel throughout May. DHTML is being used by the Scottish Tourist Board through Carat Interactive to run a Loch Ness monster, which bobs along an online page to reveal the ad.

MindShare media planner/buyer Justin Taylor said, "These types of new and original ad products are ideal for IBM, given that they provide increased cut-through to end users and are therefore considerably more effective than the more traditional forms of online advertising."

Excite UK's skyscraper ads are sized at 120x600 pixels and the big fat ads at 300x250 pixels. They join existing advertising offerings such as direct email, pop-ups and the more traditional products such as banner advertisements.
