Ex-Orange chief secures top role at Hutchison 3G

Hutchison 3G has made former Orange chief marketer Lisa Gernon its

first full-time marketing director.

Gernon began working on the telecoms group's marketing strategy earlier

this year as a consultant, reporting to managing director Colin Tucker,

but has had her position made permanent.

Gernon was group director of marketing at Orange when it was owned by

Hutchison 3G's parent company Hutchison Whampoa. She has since been

chief executive at Cable & Wireless' mobile division and a non-executive

director at grocery chain Safeway.

She was one of the key figures involved in the decision to award

Hutchison 3G's advertising account to TBWA/London last month, thought to

be worth up to £50m. TBWA/London won the business after a pitch

against Delaney Lund Knox Warren, HHCL and Partners and Saatchi &

Saatchi (Marketing, August 30).

Advertising for Hutchison 3G's yet-to-be-unveiled brand name is not

expected to air until its services begin to roll out in the middle of

next year.
