Ex-City Slicker to edit Dennis gambling title

LONDON - Dennis Publishing is putting 拢500,000 behind the launch of a monthly gambling title called Inside Edge to capitalise on the growing popularity of the activity. The title will be edited by former City Slickers columnist James Hipwell, one of the two journalists at the centre of the Daily Mirror's share-dealing scandal.

Inside Edge is aimed at ABC1 men aged 28- to 55-years old with a high disposable income and a keen interest in gambling as a leisure pursuit.

Launching on March 11, the magazine will provide gambling enthusiasts with advice on how to make informed bets on sport, financial spreads and casino games. The initial print run will be 55,000 and the cover price is 拢3.99.

Marketing includes advertising and sampling at events such as the Cheltenham Festival, where the magazine will be promoted in the race card.

An e-mail subscription will be sent to Dennis' database and to gambling site members. Dennis has appointed media buying agency Sold Out to develop a national press ad campaign.

Hipwell lost his job at the Daily Mirror amid allegations of using the column to boost the prices of shares he owned. A DTI investigation later cleared him.
