Haymarket Exhibitions man- aging director and a former chairman of the AEO Peter Osborne has called on organisers to be proud of their service provider status. Speaking on the event’s second day, Osborne said: “It should be a privilege to bring people together, whether buyer and seller or consumer and brand. But we don’t talk to each other.” Osborne added that show staff often don’t match the brand message the organiser wants to convey. “We must take greater care to select labour that fits the show environment and the workforce should be rewarded for its efforts. I’m sick of awards being presented to the industry, let’s give them to the cleaners, the car-park attendants and the like,” he commented.
