The news was announced today (30 July), 49 years after England were crowned World Cup champions. The events will pay tribute to the first international tournament played in England and to Sir Alf Ramsey’s champion squad.
The FA will work with its partners, including the Bobby Moore Fund, and support the National Football Museum with ‘a number of events’ to mark the significant moments around the 1966 World Cup. They will culminate with a ‘significant’ event on 30 July 2016 – 50 years after England were crowned World Champions for the first, and so far, last time.
While further details on the events have not been released, The FA has stated the year-long calendar of activity will run similarly to the association’s 150th anniversary in 2013 and the Football Remembers World War One programme in 2014.
The FA’s current brand partners include Nike, Mars, Vauxhall, Carlsberg and EE.
