What was the event?
A two-day open house event at Inition’s east London studios on 28 and 29 May, highlighting a number of digital and interactive experiences, which have been used at such events as The Gadget Show Live and Top Gear Live.
How did the event unfold?
The Inition team guided guests around a plethora of weird and wonderful gadgets, which have already been used throughout a number of industries including entertainment, product promotion, medical and military.
Creative director Andy Millns gave Event a personal tour around a multitude of gadget wizardry, including the virtual vertigo challenge – a multi-sensory experience enabling users to virtually walk along a plank high above a derelict city. As part of the technology, willing participants were required to wear a digital headset and headphones experiencing a 110-degree visual and realistic sound.
Stepping into Inition’s ‘medical room’, AR/VR technology were used to give visitors the opportunity to experience a simulation of a hyperglycaemic attack, which has been used for speciality medical and diabetic conferences, as well as exploring a life-sized AR body using an iPad.
One of the newest pieces of kit on display included Animazoo’s IGS Glove – the world’s first hand and finger motion tracking glove. Inition demoed the technology with a rather gory VR scenario, giving willing guests the experience to have their hand ‘sliced off’ by a virtual guillotine.
Tamer experiences included the Immersavu 180-degree dome screen that warps content so the geometry is correct on screen, and the omni-directional Wizdish device, a small circular platform almost like a treadmill in its operation, which enables users to use VR experiences within enclosed or confined spaces.

What will AR/VR technology do for the event industry?
I think that we will see an increasing amount of events producing or maximising on immersive experiences, particularly using augmented and virtual reality. This is because of the hardware being easy to deploy, lightweight and, ultimately, powerful as a way of engaging with people.
