I got into the event industry because I noticed my friends and colleagues were finding out about events in a random way, mostly based on word of mouth. I identified an opportunity to create a true real-time marketplace for users to discover events that are happening right now, locally and relevant to them.
I have worked here since I founded the company with my business partner in 2012, but have been working on the product since the end of 2011.
I was attracted to this particular role because it feeds my love for business and I do not think there has been a better moment in time for a woman to be involved in the technology based start-ups thanks to the intrinsic equality provided by the internet and the global reach it provides.
Not many people know that I graduated as a civil engineer.
My worst experience at an event was when DJ Solomun, the lead act at our Battersea Power Station event, had last minute difficulties with his visa and was potentially going to miss the event.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s a great team creates a great business.
The best event I’ve been involved in was organising our KweekWeek event at the Battersea Power Station in May 2013. We are also putting together a charity event at the Natural History Museum and a technology conference on singularity for 2014. Lots of exciting events ahead.
If I could do it all over again I would have studied artificial intelligence and consequently started KweekWeek earlier.
The one thing I can’t stand is lack of attention to detail.
Outside of work I spend my time attending events whilst ensuring I keep myself up-to-date with the rapid growth of technology.
If money were no object I would accelerate KweekWeek's international expansion and launch in every big city in the world.
The one thing I can’t do my job without is patience.
If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be no-one.
If I ruled the event industry I would put together free educational seminars and events around the world to help children learn about science and technology.
