I got into the event industry because for me 9-to-5 was never an option. I love the spontaneity of the industry, plus you get to meet some amazing people on almost a daily basis and have made many great friends.
I have worked here for almost two years.
I was attracted to this particular role because it was always going to be a challenge. It is my first position as MD, and along side the day-to-day sales, I am loving the chance to expand the brand and make Airstar known and trusted within the industry. The events world is an incredible industry where you know that people will help where they can. Within the first few weeks of moving to Airstar, I had numerous calls from friends within the industry asking what they could do to help me get my feet under my new desk.
Not many people know that whilst working in my first job as a sales executive within the publishing sector I was told to show an active interest in the company I was selling to. I was working on a boat title and the client was Sunseeker. I may have taken it a little to far, as they got the impression that I wanted to buy a Sunseeker Predator for over £6m. When invited to the boat show as a VIP I had to go as "my son" as I was apparently "away on business". I later owned up to Sunseeker!
My worst experience at an event was...TBC. I think I have been lucky so far.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s never make mention of how smoothly an event is going. It's a sure fire way of ensuring your generator will break down, your PA goes bang and the heavens will open.
The best event I’ve been involved in was anything F1 related. To mix a personal passion with work is an ideal situation. I have been lucky enough to work with a number of F1 teams throughout my time within the industry, and have met some amazing people. To go to an F1 teams headquarters and be recognised means your doing something right - or very wrong.
If I could do it all over again I would probably not do anything different as I don’t think I would be here where I am now.
The one thing I can’t stand is apart from public transport in London it would have to be driving in London.
Outside of work I spend my time... time? I have a nine-month old daughter, there is no time!
If money were no object I'd buy a villa somewhere hot, windy and by the sea so that I could windsurf every morning before work.
The one thing I can’t do my job without is my iPad, iPhone and MacBook. Other brands are available.
