Event TV: Jenson Button turns Secret Santa for Santander

Financial brand Santander enlisted agency WCRS to surprise members of the public with an appearance from driver Jenson Button in an ATM.

A fake contactless touch-screen cash machine was created for the stunt on 10 December. Customers in the Windsor branch of the bank used the ATM as normal, before being prompted to ‘push The Jenson Button to continue’.

When this was pressed, the screen was made to fall back and reveal the Formula 1 driver sat comfortably inside the machine. Button, who was in situ for six hours over the course of the day, then handed each customer £100 in cash and a Christmas hamper.

The stunt was filmed and uploaded online last Friday (19 December) as part of the bank’s wider Secret Santa campaign.

Billy Faithfull, executive creative director at WCRS, said: "The two best things about Jenson Button himself, aside from being a unique talent and a national icon, is that he's genuinely a decent bloke who likes to have a laugh, so he jumped, or rather crouched at the chance to get involved with a light hearted bit of fun with Santander's customers.

"[It was] a military-style operation, a mastermind sting that pulled off some well-deserved thank you's to unsuspecting customers adding a comedic edge to Santander's Secret Santa campaign."
