Event TV: Inside Canada House

The Canadian Embassy in Trafalgar Square became a hub of red and white during the Games, as it was transformed into a private Olympic House for family and friends of the athletes. We donned our best maple leaf t-shirts and snuck in to give you a feel for the house.

The base featured a living-room style area to relax in, with leather sofas and framed photos of the athletes on show, as well we big screens to watch Team Canada’s progress.

There was also a free bar and dining area, where Event bumped into several members of the Canadian women’s football team.

Caterers Food Show provided all the food from the daily meals to VIP events as well as the opening and closing ceremony celebrations at Canada House.

Jane Almeida, head of communications for the house, said it was important to make it feel like a "home away from home" for all who came through the doors.

It also featured a shop, where guests could purchases Canada merchandise, including red woollen mittens that became a best-seller in Canada after the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

P&G sponsored the house and fashioned a pop-up hair and beauty salon for all staff, athletes and families to experience a little pampering before heading out into the capital.

Canada’s Olympic Committee took over part of the embassy as a home during the Games. The rest of the building continued to function normally.
