Event TV: HTC and Time create Pearl Harbor VR experience

Smartphone manufacturer HTC Corporation and media company Time have launched a virtual reality (VR) experience to mark the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The experience will launch just prior to the 7 December anniversary, and aims to transport viewers inside key moments of the event's aftermath through historically authentic and fully interactive VR environments. The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II.

It is being showcased to the public at two major museum exhibits commemorating the attack: at the Newseum in Washington DC from 5-11 December and at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City from 6-7 December, as well as available via app.

Delivered by Life VR, Time's dedicated VR platform, 'Remembering Pearl Harbor' is told through the eyes of Lt. Jim Downing, one of the oldest living survivors of the attack.

The original VR project is enhanced with interactive archival news material from iconic Time and Life publications, the National WWII Museum and the Library of Congress, including famous radio broadcasts from Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

Chris Chin, senior director of content at and executive producer on 'Remembering Pearl Harbor' said: "We're honored to partner with LifeVR in telling Lt. Downing's story through such a visceral experience on the Vive. For the first time ever, viewers can immerse themselves in a virtual recreation of World War II America through this incredibly moving and educational narrative."

In February, , to showcase its Vive VR headset.
