Event TV: Global stunts for Guinness World Records Day

Yesterday (13 November) saw 600,000 people around the world celebrate the tenth annual Guinness World Records Day.

The global series of events was organised in-house from the Guinness World Records' London headquarters, with assistance from its international offices and representatives. In the UK, the publishing brand brought together the world’s tallest man, Sultan Kösen, and the world’s shortest man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi, for a press call at St Thomas’s Hospital in London.

The iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret club in Paris was chosen by France to host three acrobatic record attempts. The most simultaneous demi-grand rond de jambe cancan kicks by a single chorus line in 30 seconds; the most spinning spits in 30 seconds; and the most times to position one leg behind the head in 30 seconds by an individual were all broke.

Footwear brand Kenneth Cole collaborated with Jill Martin to break the record for the largest high-heeled shoe in New York. Also in the US, Thunder Law from the Harlem Globetrotters landed the record for the farthest basketball shot made backwards at 25 metres.

China celebrated Guinness World Records Day by breaking the title of most people eating breakfast in bed, with 388 congregating in Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai to tuck into their morning meal. They also surpassed records for the largest rice mosaic and largest line dance in multiple venues.

Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records’ editor-in chief, said: "This has been the biggest Guinness World Records Day yet, with more than 600,000 people taking part across the globe, from Australia and China to Japan and the UK. It's a truly awe-inspiring international effort that brings together people from all walks of life.

"This is illustrated perfectly in the meeting of two of the most iconic living record-breakers, Messrs Dangi and Kösen – what an honour it has been to host them on the tenth anniversary of GWR Day."
