Event Solutions: Blackout's chandeliers and silks add spectacle to Brits

MJK Productions used the services of rigging and draping supplier Blackout to transform Earls Court for the 2006 Brit Awards.

The supplier, which last month celebrated 15 years of designing drapes and star cloths as well as installing truss structures at award ceremonies, provided a range of services for the BPI's annual music industry awards show sponsored by MasterCard.

The project included the design and supply of canopy ceilings, a proscenium arch, chandelier structures and fabrics for the sets of various performers such as Prince and Kanye West, as well as the after-show party and artiste hospitality area.

For the main stage, Blackout hung 12 sweeping canopies of gold-coloured silk, along with a red silk arch. Hung over the presenters' main area was a gold silk drape canopy. And 128 silk strips were designed and supplied for four chandelier structures suspended from the main ceiling.

The after-show party for guests and artistes carried an 'end of the pier' theme created by designer Bruce French. Blackout supplied a large white muslin ceiling canopy over the main area and black ceilings over the four peripheral bar areas.

Blackout managing director Steve Tuck said the past 15 years had seen dedication "from seamstresses to senior management".

He added: "Great pride is taken in every project and we will continue to deliver the very best in products and services for the future."
