"Technology is going to lead us to reach the expectations" of our audiences, according to Sutter, senior business development executive of Cvent, who spoke at Event’s third annual creative forum, Event 360, taking place today (25 May) at Building Six at The O2.
"There is a big shift towards creating personalised event experiences and event organisers must embrace new technologies and constantly push the envelope."
During the session, Sutter summarised a range of technologies for event organisers to explore now and in the future, including Geofencing, iBeacons, driverless cars, augmented and virtual reality, wearables, wireless charging, facial recognition, holograms, and social media platforms Snapchat and Periscope.
Sutter explained that these technologies will allow organisers to send personalised information to individuals, offering navigation assistance and discounts at local restaurants, for example.
He added: "Some technologies that once seemed far fetched, or even taboo, are now the norm. Organisers must look at the different technologies and brainstorm how they can be leveraged at their events."
More than 300 event planners are attending Event 360, a day-long creative forum hosted by Event and sister title C&IT.
